Moving home

If you have just moved to Munich, you can register directly online for electricity (M-Strom) and natural gas (M-Erdgas). Your landlord may even have already done this for you. We require the following information from you:

• Your new address
• The date of occupancy
• The meter numbers and readings (electricity, natural gas, water and/or district heating) given to you by your landlord
• If applicable, the name of the previous tenant
• Your bank details (an account with a German bank is required for direct debit)

You will receive postal correspondence from us within around a week. You will be welcomed as a new customer and receive a brochure, general information and your personal contract account number.

Are you moving home? Then we’ll deregister your previous electricity, gas and water meters and register your new ones. You can provide notification of a change of address quickly and easily using our online service “My SWM”.

We require the following information from you:

• Your previous contract account number
• The date of departure
• The meter numbers and readings for electricity/water/gas/district heating at your old address (readings taken by the previous landlord upon handover of property)
• If applicable, the name of the next tenant
• Your new address
• The date of occupancy
• The meter numbers and readings for electricity/water/gas/district heating at the new address which your new landlord will inform you of
• If applicable, the name of the previous tenant

Are you moving out? Then we’ll deregister your previous electricity, gas and water meters. You can deregister yourself quickly and easily using our online service “My SWM”.  Deregistration with energy providers is mandatory.

We require the following information from you:

• Your previous contract account number
• Your old address
• The date of departure
• The meter numbers and readings for electricity/water/gas/district heating at the old address
• If applicable, the name of the next tenant
• Your new address for the final invoice

You will receive the final invoice at your new address by post within around a week.
